Edible Cities

Transforming vacant urban spaces into green jobs for NEET youth!

Project Code:
2025-2-DE04-KA220-YOU-000375269

Edible Cities is an Erasmus+ Youth project exploring how vacant urban spaces can become places for learning, creativity, inclusion and greener futures.

Rethinking urban spaces.
Creating opportunities.

Across Europe, many urban spaces are underused. At the same time, many young people are looking for opportunities, skills and more meaningful ways to connect with their communities.

Edible Cities brings these realities together. The project explores how edible city  initiatives can help create new pathways for youth participation, learning and green opportunities.

What is Edible Cities?

In general, edible cities are cities that integrate food into urban life through greener, more productive and more community-oriented spaces. They connect urban sustainability with food, learning, participation and local resilience.

Our project

Edible Cities is a European Erasmus+ Ka220 Youth cooperation project that looks at how urban spaces can be transformed into greener, more inclusive and more inspiring places for young people.

The project focuses especially on vulnerable youth and young people facing barriers to participation or employment. Through learning, collaboration and local action, Edible Cities aims to connect urban sustainability with youth empowerment, creativity and future opportunities.

Why it matters

Cities have spaces with untapped potential. Young people have ideas, energy and creativity that often remain underused too.

Edible Cities starts from a simple belief: when communities invest in sustainable food, urban inclusion and youth engagement at the same time, they can create stronger
places and more meaningful pathways for the future.

This is not only about food. It is also about:

Project objectives

What do we want to achieve?

Support young people by opening new ways to engage with green ideas, local action and future opportunities.

Develop practical learning tools for youth leaders, educators and trainers working with young people in edible city contexts.

Promote urban sustainability through edible city approaches that connect people, places and communities.

Strengthen participation by helping young people take part in shaping greener and more inclusive cities.

Create useful project results that can be shared, used and adapted by organisations, educators and stakeholders across Europe.

Who is it for?

Edible Cities is designed for different groups, with young people at the centre.

  • Young people, especially those facing barriers to education, employment or participation.
